August 10 1878. A curious defence. The borough magistrates at Stratford had before them a few days ago a labourer in the employ of Mr Perks, farmer, Haselor, who was charged with being drunk and disorderly in the High Street. His excuse was that he went to Alcester to buy a sickle and was assured that there was not such a thing in the town. He was compelled to come to Stratford where he unfortunately got drunk with the money. Mr Perks having consented to pay the costs (10s) on the defendant’s behalf, the latter was discharged with a caution.

Mr Perks, my great grandfather farmed at Upton Manor.

More information to come showing the land that was farmed here.
